Towards augmented reality with Politecnico di Bari and Upgrading Services

Technology has been making tremendous strides in recent years, and technological innovations are increasingly influencing our daily lives.
One of these innovations is undoubtedly Augmented Reality, also known as AR. Originally developed mainly for video games and entertainment, it is now becoming an integral part of production processes, bringing numerous benefits to businesses.

What is Augmented Reality and how it works

AR is reality as we perceive it, viewed through high-tech devices that provide us with the ability to enhance the qualities offered by our five senses and intellect.

Augmented Reality is an integration between the physical world and the digital world, facilitated through specific equipment or even smartphones.
One of the most sophisticated tools that can be used within businesses are the Microsoft HoloLens 2 smart glasses.

These 3D goggles appear as transparent eyewear, allowing the user an unobstructed field of vision and complete freedom of movement. They enable the placement of virtual windows and three-dimensional images into what the user is currently focusing their gaze on.


The University of Bari and Upgrading have chosen Carlieuklima

On Wednesday, November 9, 2022, we had the honor of hosting researcher Michele Gattullo from the Polytechnic University of Bari, along with Engineer Enrico Andrea Laviola, a doctoral student at the Polytechnic. They were accompanied by Vito Perrone from Upgrading Services.

They tested the application of Augmented Reality on EUCERK, our product, to assist operators during maintenance and assembly operations.

With the use of HoloLens visors and this application, the maintenance personnel can visualize the technical manual of the product and the various components within the machine. Interactive multimedia windows allow them to interact and receive specific instructions and technical steps for performing various tasks directly on the equipment.

All of this enables our staff to be completely autonomous, following the different steps they see on the screen.

Simultaneously, an Excel file is generated on the computer, specifying the operations that have been carried out and the times they were performed. This provides a reference for anyone to consult in the future, enhancing safety and attentiveness during maintenance.


During this day, our staff had the opportunity to firsthand experience the functionality of Augmented Reality, recognizing the significant potential that this technological innovation can offer.
Among the main advantages, they highlighted how it simplifies, secures, accelerates, and intuitively enhances maintenance work.
The experiment was met with great success and enthusiasm from all the testers, confirming the benefits proposed by the project presented by the Polytechnic University.
