A safe radiant heating system for high fire-risk premises

The Sofidel Group's requirement was to uniformly and safely heat the Swedish Tissue plant in Sweden, taking into account that the type of processing carried out inside is considered at high risk of fire.

Client

Part of the Sofidel Group, Swedish Tissue is a company that produces and markets high-quality paper for hygienic and domestic use; the main market is Europe, but their products are shipped worldwide.

Requirement

Our help was requested by Sofidel, with whom we have collaborated for more than 20 years.

Over the years, the relationship has intensified, and the mutual esteem between the two companies led the Sofidel Group to turn to us to heat this new plant in Sweden as well.

The Sofidel Group's requirement was to uniformly, effectively, and safely heat the entire plant in Sweden, taking into account the type of processing carried out within the production site.

The activity carried out in the plant is primarily the transformation of paper from large reels to small rolls, jumbo rolls, or tissues.
This type of processing is considered at high risk of fire and therefore, within the workshops and warehouses, the use of combustible gas of any kind is strictly prohibited.

The proposed solution

Taking the needs of Swedish Tissue into account, the optimal solution was to install a system of EUTERM radiant ceiling panels, which are ideal for premises where the type of processing and the storage of materials inside the warehouse can cause the formation of gases, dust, and/or vapors that risk leading to fires or explosions (as in this case).

This type of system was also chosen because the company had the possibility of using thermal energy derived from biomass in the form of hot water at 90°C. Thanks to the possibility of using hot water to operate Euterm, it was possible to recreate a heat distribution that did not move dust, allowed heat to be concentrated where needed, and did not create any fire hazard in the installation premises.

We therefore installed, at a height between 7.20 and 9.40 meters, a radiant panel heating system with a power of 762,588 W, which met the company's various needs and guaranteed the right comfort within the different production areas, which were heated to different temperatures based on the specific activities taking place inside, without incurring any risk.

Benefits obtained

Comfort

By regulating the temperature by department, 18°C was reached in the production and shipping area and 8°C in the warehouses and corridors.

Safety

No risk of fire and/or explosion thanks to the installation of a system that complies with safety standards.

Savings

Reduction in consumption compared to traditional heating systems and low operating costs.

Healthiness

Healthy work environments without air and dust movement for greater protection of employee health.

Sustainability

Thanks to the possibility of using thermal energy derived from biomass in the form of hot water for the operation of the radiant panels.

Silence and aesthetics

Absolute silent operation and a pleasant appearance that respects the company's aesthetics.
