A comfortable working environment for SMF personnel
The company needed to replace the existing heating system, consisting of hot air generators, with a radiant one to heat its plant efficiently while ensuring uniform temperature across the entire surface.
Client
Società Metalmeccanica Friulana designs and manufactures custom machines and systems to specification and carries out revamping projects for the reconditioning, restoration, and modernization of existing machinery and systems. SMF operates across the steel industry, offering a wide range of solutions tailored to the specific needs of its clients.
Requirements
Società Metalmeccanica Friulana needed to replace the existing heating system, consisting of hot air generators, with a higher-performance radiant system. The client complained about dust movement in the environment caused by the wall-mounted air generators. This was something they absolutely wanted to eliminate to protect employee health.
Furthermore, given the height of the plant, the air system remained in operation for many hours during the day to ensure reasonable comfort for the personnel, driving operating costs to an excessively high level.
Another aspect to be improved was related to the safety of all internal personnel: a properly heated and healthy work environment prevents drops in concentration and fatigue, which could lead to a higher risk of accidents.
The company therefore needed to uniformly and efficiently heat its 2,500 m² production site, divided into two zones, and was looking for a radiant heating solution that would allow it to create comfortable work areas, increase production efficiency, and, at the same time, optimize costs.
The proposed solution
Given the height of the rooms, the internal layout of people and machinery, and the client's specific needs, we proposed the installation of an Eucerk radiant strip system. The proposed solution proved ideal for uniformly and efficiently heating the work areas without dust movement, while simultaneously improving the environmental impact with a system featuring certified low NOx emissions. Thanks to the principle of radiation and an optimal system layout, the radiant strips are able to heat the environment below without heat loss.
We installed a total of 2 Eucerk HE EVO 4 lines with a power of 100 kW each at a height of over 7 m.
Despite the structural difficulties, the entire Eucerk heating system is installed in the upper part of the building and was specifically designed to allow the normal use of the overhead crane adjacent to the structure.
The complete absence of heating elements on the floor and walls facilitates daily internal production activities. A fundamental aspect that met the needs of SMF and its personnel.
The client chose to create a fixed structure to facilitate future interventions and avoid further platform rental costs.
Therefore, to facilitate safe access and reach the thermal units installed outside the building, and to make maintenance operations simpler and safer, we also provided the company with the walkway, a modular system configurable according to needs with a platform and perimeter safety railing, compliant with current regulations.
The walkway with a ship's ladder is complete with a safety cage and a lower closing hatch, which can be padlocked to prevent access by unauthorized personnel, ensuring greater safety.
Furthermore, the entire system is managed and controlled by a computerized supervision system that allows monitoring of the systems and real-time temperature adjustment in the different work zones, even remotely.
